More of Arlington

Bailey and me watching the changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I was holding her on the stone fence and Angela was trying to get my attention from across the steps to tell me she was falling asleep. Bailey was so good through all our touring -- it was very hot and humid and we really wore her out!

The Kennedy family graves. I had wondered if Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis would be buried here, next to JFK and the two children they lost, and she is.

This is Arlington House, the Lee family plantation home. Notice that the flag is half mast. We asked about that and learned that they lower the flag to half mast for each funeral -- and they average 27 funerals a day. The tour shuttles of course do not go into the section of the cemetery where people are buried now. There is a monument to the victims of 9/11 in that section, but we only saw pictures of it.

Scott, taking a picture of Robert F. Kennedy's grave. RFK had requested a simple white cross to mark his grave, and that request was honored here at Arlington.

I love that first picture of Bailey. I wish I videotaped her while her head was bouncing :) And I agree, she was great that week! She is actually struggling with getting back to normal--she wants to be outside ALL the time. What have we done!

Mom, I am so glad that you are posting so many pictures! What an amazing trip you all have been on. Maybe someday we can get the whole family back to VA and the surrounding areas together...

Man, there is just so much history in all of this. Did you know all this beforehand? Or did you re-learn as you went?
