More Randomness

The four sister missionaries like to join us in volunteering at Airmen's Attic, the thrift store on the base. It's unique as thrift stores go, because no money changes hands, you just donate what you can no longer use and are free to take what you can use. It's a great program and we enjoy serving there. Of course, the baby clothes are the sisters' favorite!

We stepped out of a Sunday School class we were teaching to see this line-up of Primary kids -- I just had to snap a quick picture (which Elder Loi-on tried to photo bomb, but he's so blurry you can hardly tell it's him).

We spotted this tent at a home goods store, but the reason I took the picture is because of the woven mats inside. Anyone want us to pick one of these up for you to replace your Thermarest?

We went on a early morning walk, intending to take about 30 minutes. An hour and a half later, we found our way home again -- we can get lost on foot just as effectively as we do in the car! Below is a smattering of interesting things we saw --

We've loved the cherry blossoms, dogwoods, azaleas -- but it was really fun to come across this rhododendron. They're not very common here, and seeing this one sure felt like home!

The occasional palm tree always takes me by surprise.

 Here's the police station

Bruce was intrigued with this Porsche and three old Volkswagens (one is out of sight) parked in this yard. He wondered out loud how he might bring the Porsche home!

New construction is always wrapped like this, maybe to keep the surrounding area clean?

I love the flowers and landscaping here, be sure to notice the laundry hanging on the upper deck -- very typical.

 The Japanese mini-van

 School crossing sign

These cute Japanese children just looked at me a bit suspiciously when I asked, in English, if I could take their picture. After I went ahead and took it, I said "arigatou gozaimasu" (thank you) -- and then they turned around and smiled and waved!

We've been baking treats to share -- it's nice to have something in hand when we visit. And it seems to be working, at least a little -- two less active families we visited last week came to Church on Sunday!

In my survival class we made sleeping pads out of grass. Supposedly they were comparable to thermarests in warmth. I love all the pictures of of the landscaping! So incredibly well kept and so much green in such small places. That's really cool.

I see you've borrowed cookie bribing from Mom!

Seems there are hardly any sidewalks. I love how they surround themselves with sculptured plants, flowers and as much greenery as possible. That's my philosophy too!

It's Angela. What a lovely place! The new construction covered and the laundry hanging makes me think of home. I also wonder why they cover the new construction. And I'm glad your cookies are working! Maybe I'll try with that with the Spanish inactive members here!
