A new mission office couple is coming to replace us, arriving Friday, August 28th. Elder and Sister Yamashita are both of Japanese descent, Elder Yamashita lived in Japan until about age 10, so he says he speaks Japanese on a 5th grade level (pretty impressive to Bruce and me!) Their home is northern California. They actually aren't "new" -- they opened the mission with President Wada in July 2013, and served until December 2014 when Elder and Sister Powell arrived. When the Powells had to go home unexpectedly last spring, the Yamashitas were asked to come back and serve again -- and they agreed, but couldn't come until now.
We have loved serving in the office and are now looking forward to returning to the military ward full time -- we just feel doubly blessed! It's a great time for the transition; we're between arrivals, departures, and transfers, so things are reasonably calm in the office. Bruce and I have been busy trying to get our respective areas of responsibility in order and ready to hand off to Elder and Sister Yamashita. We plan to come in to the office one or two days next week, just in case they're jet lagged!

My favorite part of this move is that we'll get to talk to you a little more often now! It was so good to see you last Wednesday. Technology is so wonderful!
