Recycled Concrete

Didn't I say wait until I show you what Bruce did with the concrete he broke up from the old shed floor? Well, here it is -- concrete blocks for this retaining wall, broken up sledgehammer-style. I suggested he rent a concrete saw -- no, that would make the cuts too straight and sharp and it wouldn't look natural. Then I suggested he break it up with the backhoe, just drop the bucket on the concrete floor -- no, that would make the blocks too large and irregular, not uniform in size and shape (in other words, too natural?). So he did it the hard way -- and doesn't it look great?!! The back yard is definitely still a work in progress -- Bruce calls it "matter unorganized!"
He wants to add more to this area -- luckily (?) we have an old section of the driveway that needs to be taken out! If anyone wants to contribute old concrete, please break it up yourself first!
This canal is currently serving as a storm drain and spring run-off -- it'll look a lot better once they open up the irrigation water!

Way to reclaim some yard -- peaceably, affordably, and burning TONS of calories to boot! :) I'm sure once Dad gets that yonder-matter-unorganized it'll look fantastic - I always love to see how he makes messes tidy and functional. Thanks for the updates, mom -- it's so good to have a taste of home. I miss you!
